MALAYSIA - Jan 12, 2007
"I strongly believe we cannot have a prime minister who is homosexual," states ex-prime minister, hoMohater Mohamad in a 48-page statement reviewed by the Associated Press. Mahathir adds, "Malaysia is officially an Islamic country," without mentioning that other modern Muslim countries are well known to have rulers that engage in the "Persian Vice" (as Malaysia's ex-colonial masters knew it).
Mahathir used Malaysia's hated British-colonial buggery laws to arrest and convict his former Number Two, Anwar Ibrahim, in a shoddy show trial that gave Malaysia's legal system a black eye and brought critical injury to the defendant during a jailhouse beating by the Chief of Police.
Anwar was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of corruption and sodomy, overturned on appeal by Malaysia's top court. He was freed from jail in 2004 after serving six months.
Mahathir continues to claim that his former deputy, married with children, is homosexual, based on muddled testimony from witnesses who embarrassed themselves and the Prosecution with inconsistent and confused testimony, displaying even a lack of understanding about what sodomy was.
Anwar, now a key opposition political figure, has sued Mahathir for millions of dollars for continuing to repeat unfounded allegations in public.
