TAIWAN - Jan 26, 2004 "This is a sad reflection on Taiwan, a country that has made considerable progress on several fronts and even has been considering legalizing gay and lesbian marriage. "It is sad to see gay men herded together as animals. They have been stripped off their human dignity and have been paraded before the world. "This makes the Taiwanese government and media look primitive and uncivilized. The Taiwanese government needs to realize that a civilized country does not achieve the moniker of being civilized by how many computer chips they manufacture or how many millions of dollars they invest in plants in China, but by how it treats its own people. "The manner in which the gay men and specially how the few who were HIV positive have been treated, shows how much the government and the media in Taiwan need to learn. "Shame on Taiwan. Shame on the Taiwanese government and double shame on the Taiwanese media for revelling in this ghastly and despicable exhibition of gay men." Kim Singh Executive Director Asian AIDS Action |
