THAILAND - Feb 20, 2003 Pizza Hut, famous for free give-away figurines from pop culture hits like Star Wars and The Simpsons, is planning to attract teen customers with a new series of gay and transgender volleyball players from the upcoming Thai film, Iron Ladies II.Satree Lex (Iron Ladies) was based on the true story of a volleyball team that overcame challenges and discrimination to become Thai national sports champions. The first film was one of Thailand's highest money-earning movies of all time and found surprising success internationally. Memorabilia from Iron Ladies, including ticket stubs, proved to be much-sought-after collectables, especially in Japan. Ten characters from the film have been designed in a limited edition of 10,000 copies per character. These will be the first Thai figurines ever offered by the company. They will be available only during the month of March via dine-in, take-away, or delivery at select outlets. The director of both films, Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, was the recipient of a 2000 Utopia Award at a ceremony attended by many of the film's stars. |
