The 3rd Singapore AIDS Conference will be held on the 22nd and 23rd of November 2002 at the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Centre, Suntec City. The theme of this year's conference is "Change - Attitudes, Behaviour - the Future."This theme underlines the necessity for each and every one of us to assess our personal knowledge and attitudes towards HIV/AIDS, to re-examine our beliefs and practices, and to effect change where it is needed in order to confront the challenges of HIV/AIDS in our lives.
Dr Balaji Sadasivan, Minister of State for Health and the Environment will be the Guest-of-Honour at the opening ceremony on the evening of Friday the 22nd of November. Senator Mechai Viravaidya will give the keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
The Singapore AIDS Conferences have been held biannually since 1998. The conference is designed for individuals and organizations involved and interested in AIDS prevention and education, and those providing support, welfare and care activities. It caters to a multisectorial audience e.g. governmental and non-governmental organizations, health workers, counselors, community groups and workers, volunteers, social scientists, the business sector, the media, activists, and persons infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS in Singapore.
The 3rd Singapore AIDS Conference is jointly organised by the Department of Infectious Disease Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Action for AIDS Singapore. There are 3 collaborating organizations namely - the Body Shop, Levi Strauss & Co and the Red Cross Society. They will co-organise two pre-conference satellite sessions - the Youth Symposium on AIDS, and the Business Forum on "Managing AIDS in the Workplace", both on Friday the22nd of November.
