Cantonese pop idol and film star Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing, jumped to his death from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong on Tuesday. Police reports say that he left a suicide note with the hotel concierge complaining of emotional problems. He was 46-years-old.

Cheung starred in the 1993 award-winning film Farewell My Concubine, winning the grand prize at Cannes for his portrayal.. Cheung also played gay roles in the popular movies He's a Woman, She's a Man and Happy Together. In 2000 he was presented with a Gold Needle Award from Hong Kong's music industry and performed around Asia in the Leslie Cheung Passion Tour in which he appeared in drag.

Openly gay, Cheung had recently denied rumors of a rocky relationship with boyfriend Daffy Tong.
